Fire-Smart Finca
Wildfire risk
Wildfire is part of the Mediterranean landscape. No design can make a property fireproof — but thoughtful planning and regular maintenance can reduce exposure around your home and across your land.

Reading the property with fire in mind
How a fire might behave near your house depends on many things together: the slope, the vegetation and how continuous it is, the prevailing winds, how buildings are placed, and whether there is safe access. Changing one of them, without seeing the others, often has less effect than expected.
I look at the property as a whole and help you decide what to clear, what to keep, what to plant and what to maintain — combining fire awareness with soil protection, shade and biodiversity rather than stripping the land bare.
What we look at
- Vegetation and fire pathways Where vegetation is dense and continuous, and how it connects to buildings.
- Buildings, slope and access How the house sits in the terrain and whether access is practical in an emergency.
- Defensible space Managing vegetation around buildings to reduce fuel close to the house.
- Strategic planting Choosing and placing plants to break continuity and keep moisture in the landscape.
- Maintenance A realistic, seasonal maintenance routine — because fire-aware design depends on upkeep.
- Preparedness Practical points about access, water and how you use the land in high-risk periods.
- Fire-aware zoning Arranging uses across the property so the most intensely managed zones protect the house.
- Existing and new fincas Adapting an established property, or building fire considerations into a new design from the start.
What this service is — and is not
My recommendations are ecological and land-design recommendations. Legal obligations for vegetation management around buildings in Andalusia, building-related fire protection and emergency planning fall to the relevant authorities and qualified specialists. Where a measure needs their confirmation, I will say so clearly.
